Art… is still doubly a servant – to higher aims no doubt, on the one hand, but nonetheless to vacuity and frivolity on the other.” Hegel

INDEX presents Nude in Road, the final part of a trilogy of 16mm film installations by Ali Kayley and Dan Glaister tracing the route from Purgatory to Paradise.

Inspired by the presence on the map of the two places within half a dozen miles of each other, the films take the promise and the menace of myth and subjects them to the ultimate, literal test of art.

The new work continues the preoccupations of the artists’ previous films: the dream of landscape, the fog of memory, the absurdity of fate and the unreliability of film.
