Join Hauser & Wirth Somerset for a two-day tapestry weaving workshop where you will learn the basic weave techniques used to create a tapestry and investigate the beauty of colour blending, inspired by the autumnal onsite Piet Oudolf perennial meadow.

Led by master weaver Caron Penney, in this is a lively and varied workshop participants will learn about colour theory and selection, tints, shades and tones. You will also practise shading techniques, weaving shapes, hatching, and how to blend wool yarns.

This class is suitable for adults with no weaving experience or for those who have some basic weaving skills. All participants will work on pre-warped frames provided by the tutor.

This two-day workshop will take place at Hauser & Wirth Somerset on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 November, 10 am – 4 pm.

Day One

10.00  Welcome and introductions

10.30 Tour of the garden (weather permitting) or talk

11.15 Colour theory and colour selection

12.00 Lunch

13.00  Weaving, blending and shading

16.00  End for the day


Day Two:

10.00  Demonstration of shape building and hatching

10.45  Weaving shapes or hatching

13.00 Continue weaving

15.00 Completing your work, and finishing demonstration

About Caron Penney

Caron is an independent artist and artisanal tapestry weaver who works from her own studio in West Sussex. She was formerly the Director of West Dean Tapestry Studio. Caron has tapestries in collections and exhibits her work across the UK and is a member of the Contemporary Applied Arts, London and is represented by the Zimmer Stewart Gallery, West Sussex.
