Sir Joshua Reynolds grew up in Plympton and inherited a family friendship with the Mudge family. Throughout his life, Reynolds painted three generations of the family including Dr John Mudge who attended school with him.

Mark Cardale, a descendent of Dr Mudge, discusses his family’s links with Royal Academy’s founding President and provides a unique insight into Reynolds’ work.

This is one of the many great events that we are running while the ‘Great Artists | Great Teachers’ exhibition is on display in the Levinsky Gallery at the University of Plymouth.
