Kelly Best’s site specific drawing installations respond to the architecture of the galleries they inhabit, expanding beyond the flat surface and in some cases creating three dimensional optical illusions. For this solo exhibition Cardiff-based Best presents an ambitious new work for the first floor gallery of Plymouth Arts Centre. Wrapping around the space, an extensive series of delicate pencil drawings skip across a tiled wall, echoing the slates on the building’s exterior. Best trained as a painter and works by collaging found forms and textures, layering brightly coloured paint to create abstract spaces and invented landscapes. All Walls Are Interrupted will be the first time she exhibits her paintings in a solo exhibition, having previously presented a small number of works in group shows including the 2012 John Moores Painting Prize.
