This workshop is suitable for artists who have never attempted portraiture before, as well as practised artists, and will be led by Lesley Nicholls.

The session will begin with a slide presentation covering the basic proportions of the human face, light and shade, as well as useful tips to help you achieve a good likeness of your model. It will finish with a series of slides showing the various stages leading up to a finished portrait.

Because Acrylic paints are so flexible, please bring with you tubes of Cadmium Orange, Burnt Sienna and White, (plus maybe Crimson, Hookers Green Dark and a chosen background colour) along with a palette, a half-inch decorator’s brush available from any hardware store (smaller brushes for fine detail only), a water container, a 12 x 16 inch canvas, an easel (free standing or desktop) and, of course, a well lit reference photograph for your subject.
