Housework – Elena Brake

Devonport Guildhall

Until Friday 13 April

Elena Brake presents Housework, a selection of works that originate from ordinary household tasks. The artist aims to reimagine and enchant everyday experiences by capturing and exaggerating the mundane details of ordinary life in a way that stirs complex and unexpected emotions.

'Full disclosure, Rachel (out of LOW PROFILE) is currently mentoring Elena as part of Visual Art Plymouth’s Plymouth Platform initiative and previously taught her, so you could say we’re biased, but Elena is really great! It’s been really exciting to see Elena’s work develop post graduation and see her pushing her practice in new directions. Brilliant to see the Devonport Guildhall being used as a venue for this exhibition – the venue is worth a visit in its own right.'

Book launch: Mutter Physics presented by Benjamin A. Owen and Kit Poulson

Spike Island

Thursday 12 April, 6.30-9pm

Artists, musicians and writers combine in an evening of performance to accompany the launch of Kit Poulson’s new book Mutter. The evening includes text and sound performance and visuals with artists Alex Baker, Bellies!, Libita Clayton, Claire Feeley, Rachael Finney, Samuel Hasler, Lizzie Lloyd, Wayne Lloyd, Benjamin A. Owen, Kit Poulson, Robin Stewart and UWE Fine Art students.

'What a top notch line up! With so many excellent artists, musicians and writers in one room, this is bound to be a really interesting event with a mix of performance and text. We’re interested in both Benjamin and Kit’s work, and are really intrigued by the mash-up of art practice, education, exhibition-making and sound that this event promises.'

AUDINT Unsound: Undead, part of Bristol New Music

Spike Island

Friday 20 April – Sunday 22 April

At the centre of Unsound: Undead is a new work produced for an ‘Unsound System’—an acousmonium of multiple infrasonic and ultrasonic speakers, operating at frequencies that are ‘felt as much as heard.’

'This sounds like a brilliant weekend of activity including installations, talks and performances. We are currently preoccupied with thinking about the physicality of sound and if we weren't in Glasgow we would be jumping in the car to come up for this. There are also some other great looking linked events that weekend as part of Undead so loads to go and see.'
