Limina VR Weekender – VR Arts Festival

Watershed, Bristol

Friday 1 – Sunday 3 December

'One of the great things about being asked to be Guest Editor for VASW is the spreadsheet they send you which lists everything visual art+ in the south west. I always knew we are lucky to live in a creative place, but the long list is eye opening and there is too much to choose from – when is someone going to invent a transporter to get round it all?

My first choice is the Limina VR Weekender – VR Arts Festival at the Watershed. Curated by the wonderful Pervasive Media Studios and one of their residents, Catherine Allen, this promises to be a feast for the senses – cutting edge dance; a VR Wildlife Safari; and a trip through a surrealist painting. It also asks questions about how we critically engage with VR – fascinating and very timely as VR and AR move into the mainstream.'

The Collaborators

The Exchange, Penzance

Until Saturday 6 January

'Although it’s been on for a while, I haven’t yet made it to the fourth annual exhibition celebrating the work of The Collaborators at The Exchange in Penzance. Describing themselves as a “collective of art-based adventurers”, The Collaborators are a group of 15 – 25 year old emerging artists, linked to and supported by Newlyn Art Gallery. This show promises surprises and new perspectives, and contrasts with the other exhibition at The Exchange by Robyn Denny, an internationally acclaimed contemporary of David Hockney, Bridget Riley and Peter Blake. Interesting to reflect on the journey that talent takes.'

Native Makers Christmas Market

Ocean Studios, Plymouth

Saturday 16 December – Sunday 17 December

Native Makers is a platform for creative people in Devon, curating quality makers markets to support artisan craft in the South West.

'A bit of a perennial favourite and as it is taking place at Ocean Studios in Plymouth this year I’ll definitely be doing my Christmas shopping at Native Makers Winter Market. Founded in 2014 and now run by Rosie Drake-Knight, Native Makers aims to link designer-makers with people who love artisan craft and contemporary design. It has grown each year, is a great day out and you know you’ll come back with something unique plus a warm glow from knowing your money is well spent – a great antidote to Black Friday.'
