Every month we invite a Guest Editor to select our Pick of the Week feature. Chosen from the activities listed in our events pages they select highlights from across the region.

This November Stuart Crewes, Creative Director of Art Week Exeter, is making the selection.

Stuart Crewes is based in Exeter, where he sits on the Cultural Partnership steering group, representing practitioners, and chairs the Visual Arts Forum. He is also the Creative Director of Art Week Exeter and has produced an annual city-wide art event on Exeter’s streets – NOSE – since 2011.

Art Week Exeter (AWE) was developed from a desire to promote the cultural ecology of the city. It frames and highlights the visual and performance art programming of Exeter’s venues, offers a platform for cultural organisations and commissioners, and promotes artists showing their work – in studios, galleries and non-art spaces. AWE also works to foster and support civic engagement and outcomes alongside high-quality exhibitions of international standing.

Stuart graduated from Dartington College of Arts in the early 90s; his practice is as a site- and object-sensitive artist. His experience working in health and social care, with socially progressive movements and supporting people to create social-action projects, all contribute to his interest in inclusivity, consultation and participation.

Art Week Exeter will take place during 21–29 May 2018 and will feature a new commission by NOSE, where a proposal by a city resident will become the newest piece of public art on the High Street.
