Deadline Monday 22 May 2017
Play Me I’m Yours is a musical art trail of individually-decorated street pianos installed in public spaces across a city for everyone to play and enjoy. Reaching over 10 million people worldwide, more than 1750 pianos have been set up in over 55 cities across the globe, from Hong Kong to New York, bearing the simple instruction Play Me I’m Yours. The project has spawned marriage proposals, inspired musical compositions, helped discover new stars and been played by celebrities including Jamie Cullum, Jools Holland, Alicia Keys and Cindy Lauper.
To mark the 10th anniversary of Play Me, I’m Yours, the project is coming to Bristol from Thursday 17 August to Thursday 7 September 2017 and we are looking to commission a number of Bristol artists to transform these old pianos into works of art.
The fee is £500 for each piano that is decorated and transformed, either by an individual artist or a group (one piano per artist or group). Artists must be available for live decorating events which will take place over the weekends of 21-23 July and 28-30 July 2017 (which ever of these dates suit you, for as much or as little time as you need to complete your piano) in a central Bristol location. To express your interest email the following information to email@example.com by 09:00 Monday 22 May 2017:
– Your contact details: name, email address and mobile telephone number
– Link to your website or Facebook page showing images of your work and/or attach two photos or videos of your artwork to your email
– Explain in one paragraph why you should be selected, what inspires you about the project, what makes you stand out…
– Confirm that if you are selected you will be available to decorate your piano over the weekends of 21-23 July and 28-30 July 2017.
Once we’ve received expressions of interest we will make a shortlist and selected artists will be sent a full brief and will be asked to submit piano design ideas by 12 June. We will then make the final selection based on these submissions, and artists will be notified by 19 June 2017.
Artists selected for this project will receive £500 to cover the cost of materials and their creative time to design and decorate a piano, and they will be credited on www.bristolstreetpianos.co.uk with a link to their website or Facebook page and in publicity for the project.
Please note: The selected artists will be required to sign a contract confirming that their design is their own original artwork, that the decoration will be completed by Sunday 30 July, and that they relinquish ownership and copyright of their piano artwork.
Due to the public nature of this art project the decorated street pianos and the artwork on them will be in the ‘public domain’ and will be photographed and videos by the public and the media and these images and films shared in the media and on social media. This means that artists must relinquish all and any copyright claims in reference to the artwork/decorated piano, and have no ownership of the piano which remains the property of Luke Jerram Ltd, until it is donated and ownership is transferred at the end of the project.
The decorated street pianos will be displayed for three weeks from 17 August to 7 September 2017 in outdoor public locations across Bristol for people to play and enjoy, after which any pianos still in good working order will be donated to local charities, good causes, or kept in their locations on a more permanent basis.
