Deadline Friday 15 September 2017
The Friends of the Garden is an unincorporated voluntary organisation with a strong track record of staging biennial exhibitions of contemporary sculpture in gardens in Wiltshire. In our alternate year we organise bursaries to further the professional development of sculptors.
We are pleased to announce our 2017 bursary which is targeted at young sculptors under the age of 29. Applicants must either be expecting to graduate in 2017 or have already graduated with a recognised arts degree, excluding furniture making; be aged 29 or under and either live or have a studio/workshop or be in the final year of a degree course at a College in any of the following areas: Wiltshire and Swindon, Hampshire, Bristol, Surrey, Berkshire, Dorset, West Sussex, Bournemouth, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Bath and North East Somerset, Devon or Cornwall.
The award, called the Ruth Tait Award, provides for a young sculptor to make a site specific piece of sculpture for installation in our 2018 exhibition.
The selection process provides for 3 applicants to be shortlisted. These artists will each receive £250 to further develop their ideas. They will also take part in a group show at Pound Arts in Corsham which will comprise sketches/maquettes for the exhibition piece together with other current work. The winner will be announced at the launch to this exhibition and receive a grant of £2,000 to allow them to make and install their piece at our 2018 exhibition.
We believe this award provides young sculptors with an exciting opportunity to respond at an early stage in their career to a real world commissioning experience.
