Visual Arts South West developed a series of professional development events for visual arts practitioners around the theme of Art and Money. Working with national partner Contemporary Art Society and regional venue partners, Stroud Valleys Artspace, Plymouth College of Art, Creative Skills, Big Picture, Bridport Arts Centre and Reveal the events gave insights into the contemporary art market, working with curators, and a look at alternative ways in which artistic practice can be sustained.
The objectives of the programme were to provide artists with knowledge to help them to financially sustain their practice; to raise the level of ambition in the region; and to bring opportunities for knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas.
The programme was developed in early 2012 and ran through May and June 2012. The events were attended by over 80 artists, who gained access to specialist knowledge and to bespoke ‘surgeries’.
Working towards a South West where talented artists thrive, and a resilient and connected visual arts ecology that inspires more engaged and diverse audiences to value and advocate for its work.
