Holburne Museum

The Holburne is one of the UK’s leading museums and the principal visual arts organisation in Bath.

The Holburne is one of the UK’s leading museums and the principal visual arts organisation in Bath. Our vision is Changing Lives through Art and Creativity, recognising the positive impact both have on health, well-being and community cohesion.

Founded in 1882, Holburne has a unique and eclectic collection of over 9,000 works. We present world-class exhibitions and are admired for our dynamic collection displays, vibrant learning and community programme and innovative interpretation.
We present exhibitions that cover a range of historical periods, extending the remit of our core 18th century collection, and have recently embedded contemporary art alongside the historical to engage new audiences with themes relevant to today.
We support artists at every stage of their career through our contemporary programme, with recent exhibitions of George Shaw, Grayson Perry, Sunil Gupta, and Nicholas Pope, and a new commission by Mick Peter. In 2022/23 we presented new work by Nalini Malani (in partnership with the National Gallery), a commission by Alberta Whittle and a retrospective of Michael Simpson.
