Every month we invite a Guest Editor to select our Pick of the Week feature. Chosen from the activities listed in our events pages they select highlights from across the region.
This November we welcome Vickie Fear, artist and Programme Assistant at Plymouth Arts Centre.
Vickie Fear is an artist and has been Programme Assistant at Plymouth Arts Centre since 2012. As part of her post at PAC she has worked with a range of artists and arts organisations including Bob & Roberta Smith, Emily Speed, Film & Video Umbrella and Artangel, and in 2013 she took on the co-ordination of PAC Home.
PAC Home is a growing Associate Programme for artists, writers and curators in Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall. Aiming to support and foster a strong visual arts sector, the programme comprises of talks, peer critiques, travel and residency opportunities and connection to an expanding professional network.
As an artist Vickie has shown work nationally, including in London, Bristol, Manchester and Liverpool and has had residencies at Plymouth University and at Unit 7 in Glasgow. Her work straddles the boundary between sculpture and performance and often consists of a solo figure activating a textile prop by inhabiting it for an uncomfortably long period of time.
In addition to her output as a visual artist Vickie is a keen advocate for artist-led activity and has been involved in various projects in the South West. Previously a Co-Director of Hand in Glove, she has worked with artists in a curatorial role and facilitated events bringing artists together. Vickie is also now working as part of Counter, an annual art book fair in Plymouth, which launched in October this year with twenty-five stallholders from across the UK, coming together to share and sell their work.
Working towards a South West where talented artists thrive, and a resilient and connected visual arts ecology that inspires more engaged and diverse audiences to value and advocate for its work.
