Call for artists

Artist Call out - Art Blast: Drop in to Summer

CAS is looking to create an artist run summer art drop-in project for young people, based at the Andover skate park.

Bringing the project right to the place where young people are, our central aims are; to build confidence through encouraging creative output, to facilitate relationship building, and to support young people to celebrate the culture and identity that is special to them.

Andover skate park is well used by children and young people from the nearby housing estate and beyond. As a town, Andover has some real pockets of deprivation, facing challenges both economically and socially, but it is also a vibrant community, which is open and enthusiastic about whatever CAS as an arts organisation can offer.

The project needs to be fun, accessible, and reflect the energetic vibe of the skate park. The 3 x two-day blocks will run during the summer holidays throughout the first three weeks of August and work created can be exhibited in the Unity Art Studio gallery in the Chantry centre in the final week of August 2021.

Skateboarders often have a keen interest in art, film and photography, both digital and analogue, creating zines and YouTube videos of themselves or their fellow skaters. They have a strong identity and share ‘alternative’ ideology that is increasingly recognised as inclusive and positive for young people.

While proposals may want to consider these ideas/skills/media, you may want to propose a different approach entirely, and while an interest in skateboarding would be an advantage, it is not in any way essential to the project.

There is a budget of £250 daily fee for each of the two artists if you are a team, with one £150 prep fee for each 2-day project block. If you are applying as an individual artist, the fee will remain the same, and an assistant will be assigned to support you in the project.
