Artists Residency: King John’s House & Museum

Chapel Arts Studios and King John’s House and museum, with funding from Test Valley Arts Foundation, are coming together to offer a 2 day residency

Located at the heart of Romsey near the Abbey, the medieval Tudor and Victorian buildings are rich in history. The building we now know as King John’s House, once part of Church Court, was in continuous occupation and use for over 800 years and is surrounded by a beautiful, period-style garden.

The building is full of the traces of its past occupants, from a museum collection of everyday objects and centuries old finds to the prolific medieval graffiti drawn into its plaster walls.

Chapel Arts Studios (CAS), and King John’s House and museum, with funding from Test Valley Arts Foundation, are coming together to offer a 2 day residency to an artist for the weekend of Sat 6th & Sun 7th August 2022.

We welcome proposals for artwork that will engage and inspire the many visitors that come to this special venue, connecting its stories and histories with the present day. The selected artist will create work/install work in the buildings, and/or the gardens creating temporary artwork/installation that will bring a fresh understanding of the space and remain in the memory of its audience.

Proposals can be in any artform (drawing, digital, sound, sculpture, performance etc) but must have an element of engagement/participation with the visiting audience.

King John’s House will be available for artists to visit and research the site free of charge. If you wish to visit for research purposes, please email Mark Udell at generalmanagerkjh@gmail.com with your contact details.

Total 2 x day residency fee of £1000.
