Open call

Open call for musicians and performers

a space’ arts and GHT are looking for musicians to perform at the When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Ship exhibition closing event.

Following the success of the exhibition launch and brilliant response to our current exhibition When I Grow Up I Want To Be A Ship by Emily Peasgood, we’re pleased to be releasing a new open call for musicians to perform at our exhibition closing event.

When I Grow Up I Want To Be A Ship is a new artwork and installation by sound artist and composer Emily Peasgood, currently on show at God’s House Tower in Southampton. It takes the form of a song, played through speakers in the gallery space, exploring Southampton’s complex relationship to the sea. Spanning a period of over 400 years, the song’s lyrical content explores the city’s every-changing coastline from the 1600s to the present day and into the future. Informed and inspired by local histories and local people, the song invites visitors to immerse themselves in the story of the Solent.

We’re looking for 6 performers to create a version of the song at the exhibition closing event on Friday 6th May 2022. Whether you are a folk singer or a visual and sound artist looking to create a multi-disciplinary piece, the open call is open to all performing disciplines. Each performer will receive a flat fee of £50.
