Archiving Glitches with Dhaqan Collective - In Conversation

An intimate conversation with artists Dhaqan Collective for one night only, to discuss exploration and connectivity in Somali spirit possession.

Dhaqan Collective (Fozia Ismail, Ayan Cilmi & Asmaa Jama) explore, orality, ancestors, archives & identity. Their first project Camel Meat + Tapes, was a co-created project with Somali elders in Bristol looking at cassette tapes, migration, and oral histories. This was presented at Arnolfini gallery, as part of City Fellows.

The second iteration of the project, funded by Arts Council England, explores the experimental sonic possibilities of cassette tapes, and the connections younger generations of Somalis have to them, and their cultures.

For their time in St Annes House, Dhaqan Collective will explore the patterns that connect the sonic archives of Somali spirit possession rituals, finger weaving and EDM (electronic dance music).

After the talk, experience some of Dhaqan Collective's new and existing work in RELAY, some never before shown.

Talk duration: 1 hour, 18.00-19.00
