Euphrosyne Andrews: Soft Edges, Draw Close

Soft Edges, Draw Close is an exhibition and permanent public sculpture by Euphrosyne Andrews on view at KARST gallery from 25 March 2022.

Soft Edges, Draw Close is an exhibition by Euphrosyne Andrews where the artist’s artist’s unorthodox approach to printmaking will be translated through a range of materials. The exhibition corresponds with and unpicks the ideas behind the artist’s public sculpture commission, Draw Close. Taking the curtain as a central metaphor, the exhibition and public sculpture explore the ways materials frame our experience of domestic and public spaces. New works make reference to the role that cultural, political and technological histories of decorative and applied arts have played in social change.

Situated on KART’S facade Draw Close takes the form of movable steel screens that conceal and reveal the gallery’s entrance. Referencing KARST’s location and the interiors of nearby theatres and entertainment venues on Union Street the work lends a sense of excitement and suspense, punctuated by its opening and closing, its rise and fall.
