GHT Futures Forum — Artist Spotlight — Helen Cammock
Our new project ‘GHT Futures Forum’ looks to create a safe, supportive environment for Southampton’s *Black and non-Black artists of colour at all stages of their careers. Led by Southampton artist and writer, Nazneen Ahmed, and supported by ‘a space’ arts and God’s House Tower, we are proposing a series of monthly informal meet-ups (to take place online until it is safe to meet in person). Artists, curators and makers of all disciplines are welcome.
We are delighted to be welcoming Turner Prize winner Helen Cammock for a special artist spotlight event. In this informal panel discussion Helen will be invited to share her experience and career to date.
Helen Cammock explores social histories through film, photography, print, text, song and performance. She is motivated by her commitment to questioning mainstream historical narratives around blackness, womanhood, wealth, power, poverty and vulnerability. Mining her own biography in addition to the histories of oppression and resistance, multiple and layered narratives, reveals the cyclical nature of histories.
Cammock was joint recipient of The Turner Prize 2019 and the 7th Max Mara Art Prize for Women.
