Looking to the light
Inspired by Bristol’s purpose-built mental hospital, work by ten artists is displayed within the museum.
An exciting exhibition of contemporary art exploring mental health care at Glenside Hospital Museum. The work reflects the artists' personal journeys of discovery and interpretation. The theme, Looking to the Light, was inspired by a portrait photograph of an 1897 patient, Charles West, and by the sun shining through the stained glass windows depicting scenes of healing and hope in the church, built for patients in 1881, which now houses the museum.
