A feminist art collective of Somali women, Dhaqan Collective centres the voices of womxn & elders in their community, privileging co-creation & collaboration. Their first project Camel Meat + Tapes, was a co-created project with Somali elders in Bristol looking at cassette tapes, migration, and oral histories. This was presented at Arnolfini gallery, as part of City Fellows. The second iteration of the project, funded by Arts Council England, explores the experimental sonic possibilities of cassette tapes, and the connections younger generations of Somalis have to them, and their cultures.
