The Reset: What does social distancing mean to visual arts?

VASW welcomes Andy Brydon (Curated Place) and Fiona Wotton (Cornwall 365) to discuss the arts sector’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June and July 2020, Visual Arts South West presents a series of talks and presentations in collaboration with Contemporary Visual Arts Network.

These webinars are a combined offer supporting our national and regional networks to find ways to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and its far-reaching effects on our sector. The discussions will address pressing questions on reopening our venues; adjusting to the demands of social distancing; staying in touch with our communities; advocacy work; weathering the economic impact on our professional field, and retaining our value.

Responding to the data collected via CVAN’s recent impact survey, these webinars are designed to bring the visual arts together, provide confidence, celebrate innovation and foster interconnectedness as we all move into the next phase of response and recovery.

Macro to micro: What does social distancing mean to the visual arts sector?

Andy Brydon (Director of Curated Place) and Fiona Wotton (Director of Cornwall 365) consider the broader implications and impact of COVID-19 on the arts, exploring the value of tourism and the opportunities that the arts community could utilise under these unprecedented circumstances. The tourism industry and leading institutions can play a crucial role in supporting artists now to build an engaging contemporary narrative about place. Curated Place has also gathered extensive international research on planning events and festivals at the time of social distancing.

VASW has invited these two experts to open up new perspectives in the visual arts to innovate our art form and ways to engage the communities that surround it.
