Large-scale projection describing Bristol through the eyes of the internet

‘This City is’ is a large-scale projection that describes Bristol through a continuous list of statements taken from Twitter, Reddit and various other online platforms. The statements range from personal opinions to public announcements and from commercial texts to political statements. Continuously updating and randomly arranged, this collectivised stream of consciousness is an attempt to capture the many layers, voices and emotions that exist in Bristol at this very moment. In a time where our engagement in public places has changed, it has become difficult to sense how a city ‘feels’ and to connect to the shared sentiment of a place. This work engages and reconnects with the multiple versions of this city through the re-edit of found text.

This project is coded by Paul Angus and was first commissioned by O, Miami 2020.
